GROM wood band saw (bi-metal)

Characteristics of the material from which the GROM band saw is made:

• carrier tape: carbon tool steel containing alloying elements
• such as carbon, silicon, manganese, chromium (hardness 47÷52 HRC)
• blade: overlay made of M42 steel (hardness 66÷68 HRC)

Working conditions of the GROM band saw:

• recommended: unbarked sandy wood, frozen wood, hardwood
• possible to use: unbarked cleaned wood, medium hard wood
• not recommended: barked wood, softwood

Instructions for using the GROM band saw:

• stress: 170 - 175 MPa , recommended use of FENES TPT-67 strain gauge
• lapping: work at 50% feed (10 minutes)
• Cooling: the saw needs plenty of cooling to avoid overheating
• opening: 0.45 - 0.50 mm per side, depending on the type of sawn wood and the width of the tape (opening at 1/2 of the height measured from the top), recommended use of the FENES RPT-60 set
• feed: 2 - 8 m/min. depending on the species and purity of the wood
• cutting speed: approx. 30 m/s
• sharpening: recommended with a BORAZON GRIND grinding wheel adapted to the geometry of the FENES blade, with oil cooling, recommended use of the FENES OPT-60 sharpener
• working time: approx. 3 hours work + 12 hours saw rest first sharpening; after approx. 3 hours operation of the saw - control the setting, it is recommended to use a device for measuring the setting of the teeth
